Is there a setting to make the camera use fill flash based on my manual aperture and shutter speeds? It seems I have to manually set flash power to low, med, or high. This seems way too imprecise and a PITA to get correct exposure with.....

Thanks in advance!
James

A frequent question. The answer is simply that manual exposure on the PowerShot G series also means manual flash exposure whether the flash is the built-in flash or an external flash. G series flash is not the same as Canon DSLR flash.

I wrote about the G9 flash modes here: http://lightdescription.blogspot.com …isplay-in-flash-mode.html (external link) ; the G12 is similar.

Yeah, I was surprised by the same thing when I got my G12. Kind of a bummer.
