Big Block Modifieds

This is becoming a fav race of mine to attend, as they do the coolest driver intro of any track I have seen, bang out a fast program, and the food is some of the best racetrack food around, and there is zero traffic on a Monday night, as it is run on a Holiday Monday.

And since it is a Super DIRTcar Series event, all the top guys are there, so the racing is always intense.

What lens did you use for them, both really sharp and really pop out of the screen, almost 3d like.

70-200mm F4.0 L IS as my 2.8 Sigma packed it in a few weeks earlier.

It's funny that you mention the 3d effect, as other have said that about my prints, even if I used a 24-70mm or a 300mm F2.8 or even my Sigma when I used to shoot snowcross.

Here are two from earlier in the season with the Sigma, if you want something to compare it too. The light is a bit different, as the second shots were from a night that was cloudy with an approaching rainstorm, that then led to a night with two long features, as we had 75 laps to run, before we could start the Big Block event.

Those are awesome .Looks like a great track to witness and photograph

They're sharp, colorful...but boring. Four shots, four different cars, same corner?, same angle, same shutter. Mix it up buddy. There's a whole lotta track out there.

I doubt you have ever been to this track, but it is one of the ugliest tracks around with 42 hydro poles on the facility itself, a high tension line just out of frame, it is 1/3rd of a mile and the place is just old, as it is celebrating its 60th season this year.

I posted the second pair for D-Pearce92 to make a lens comparsion, since I felt he should have all the info I can offer.

Thanks for posting the sigma shots, the canon ones defiantely look better, which one do you prefeer the canon or the sigma?

Don't forget the Canon was during a sunny evening, and the Sigma was overcast.

The Sigma is a stop faster, and that makes a big difference once the sun goes down, as I don't have to crank up the ISO as far or as quickly.

I think the best way to go, if you are going to do any late day into the night shooting IMO is a Canon 2.8 without the IS, as I have never seen IS help me pan a car. I got the F4.0 IS for Snowcross, since I would often hold the camera up with a fully gloved left hand, while waiting for the snowmobiles to come by, while my thinly gloved right hand was in my pocket, keeping my fingers warm. At the end of an 8 hour day, the weight difference was a big deal.

no...i knew why posted the other two, I can read.

I made a call on the fact that all the shots were the same, as I saw them. If you have others that make the track look so much better, then lets see em.
