Hey I was wondering if you guys know of any tripods, I don't need major good one's and its just for AV/TV mode's slow shutter speed's etc. In urban area's.

But i want a tripod whats easy to carry so it will fit in my ruksack so when put the tripod away it will go down to 30cm's or so or lower.

Any of you guys know of one like this.

Sorry i think i posted this in the wrong forum sorry mods.

Arguably this belongs in the Accessories and Storage forum, but that's up to the mods.

You left out one key piece of information - what are you wanting to put on that tripod? I've got two Canon cameras here - the family Ixus 700 and my EOS 20D (with EF 24-70mm f/2.8L and EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lenses, also a BG-E2 grip). The Ixus is fine on our lightweight Slik tripod that weighs less than 500g and collapses down small. My 20D, even with the lighter 24-70 lens fitted, is way too much for that tripod; it can only be used on my Gitzo G2220 Explorer legs / Gitzo G1275M head / Manfrotto RC2 adapter setup. The only part of my setup that ever goes on the Slik is my Speedlite 580EX.

By the talk of Av and Tv, you're using something heavier than an Ixus 700. However, you'd maybe get away with a lighter tripod for a 350D and kit lens than you would for something like my setup. Unfortunately, with tripods, you can only have two of light, cheap and robust. If you give details of your equipment and budget, you may get some more helpful advice. Your height is useful as well.

If you want something that folds up as small, you're going to be looking at a 4 section leg tripod (which will, by nature, be less stable than a comparable 3 section leg tripod) and possibly using the centre column to get to your standing height as well, which further compromises stability. 30cm is unachievable; few 4 section leg tripods are much below 50cm, and you have to add the height of the head (and QR platform if you use a separate one) to that. The Gitzo G1566 monopod, which is 6 section, is 40cm, and that only gets to 1.2m tall.

And the lens or lenses you're using with it?

If that's all you're putting on the tripod, you may be able to get away with something rather less sturdy than I'm using, though whether that's a good idea is a moot point.

condyk doesn't seem to have noticed this thread - he's a big fan of the Feisol (external link) tripods. Maybe the Feisol CT-3402 is a start point for your further exploration, together with something like a Manfrotto 488RC2 head.

In the end, only you can weigh up what is right for you. You may get something reasonable in a camera shop for that sort of weight.

theres alot of more "generic" stuff too. check out amvona.com. i bought a at-858cl tripod from them (not exactly the lightest) and its of pretty awesome build and quality. got it off ebay from amvona themselves for $47 shipped! get one with a interchangeable head (preferabbly metal or carbon made, no plastic junk!) and a release plate to make your life easier.

yea i wish i got some cash for a manfrotto or a gitzo carbon fiber one. heard of feisols too and they seem to be good. but to make myself feel better i printed out the gitzo logo and model numbers and stuck them on my amvona tripod.

The feisols are very good and both of the 4 section tripods fold to under 50 cm. Also, as they are carbon fiber they are very light and very sturdy.

Haha exactly! I think that if I did the same thing I'd forget it wasn't a Gitzo after awhile  It kinda bites that these things a in the $250-300 range for a decent setup, but I guess Manfrotto and Gitzo are among the top quality.

I've got a Gitzo 2228 carbon fiber http://www.luminous-landscape.com …essories/gitzo-2227.shtml (external link) . It's a beauty i tell you, worth every penny. It's a true case of you get what you pay for with the 2228. Actually got a really good deal from one-stop digital. Cost £263 imported from HG. Over £400 over here

Mike, you could of had my stickers, i took them off:)
