I'm currently shooting with a 450D(XSi) with a 18-55 IS, 70-200 f/4 IS and a 430EXII. I have been considering upgrading to a 17-55 for a constant aperture and then getting a 7D later for improved ergonomics and bigger body to balance the bigger lenses. In total this would work out a £1930 at current prices.

However Jessops currently have the 5D MarkII + 24-105 kit for £2149.95 is £220 more than the 7D + 17-55mm

Is is the AF of 5D MarkII comparable to the 450D also I quite happy with the results I getting from my 450D so would a jump to full frame bring me any benefits or am I better sticking to crop?

All input welcome.

Tough choice, I own both and like both.

Here's a comparison shot from both cameras (different lenses though so it's not a perfect test) but you'll see that there's not much between a 5DII and a 7D unless you really start digging.

One of these is the 7D with Sigma 10-20mm lens at 15mm.
The other is the 5DII with 24-70L at 28mm.

The EXIF will tell you which is which but try and have a guess first.

The 5DII handles noise better but the 7D beats it on AF. If I had to choose only one it'd be very difficult...probably leaning just to the 5DII but I'd miss some of what the 7D gives me.

As for the price of the 5DII - checking with http://www.camerapricebuster.com …I_+_24-105mm_Lens_pc.html (external link) shows that it is the cheapest deal on offer on the web...however, if you get in contact with a guy called Ian Kerr (known here as kerso) he sells at prices that can't be beaten on the web. I've bought quite a bit from him (all new with warranties) as have plenty of others on this forum.

Unless you are primarily shooting sports / wildlife, then the full frame 5D II all the way.

@Mike, Cheers there is not much difference at all both very impressive, thanks for the info on kerso.

@jrscls, I mostly shoot portraits and landscapes hence why I'm thinking of the 5D Mark II.

With the price and given this info, Go for the 5DII, You will not miss the things the 7D has

And Mike, First is 5DII and second is 7D

I am sure the 5D II is a great camera.

Since I got my 17-55 f2.8, 95% of the shooting I do is now with a 7D and 17-55. I own 3 nice primes (see signature), and I used to use them a lot. Since the 17-55 came into my life, the primes mostly stay in the bag.
Of course if I need more reach or bigger aperture I have to switch to a different lens.

If you get the 7D & 17-55 combo, you will not be sorry.

Nope, Could tell because of the focal length

15mm is wider than 28mm on FF ;)

Go for 5D2
The small money difference makes it worth to go for the FF

Not me, I've seen these photos in another thread where they were labeled.

5D is clearly the better image, the lowly 7D didn't even get that person in red on the bike!

Mikes point is valid, both shots are extremely close IMO.
Granted that these are web size images, even like that, both images are pretty close if you dont "look" at the exif or the previous thread.
Never the less Id go for the 5D2 with 24-105, just because the price difference makes it hard not to jump into the 5d2

The other thing to not is that there has been no PP done to either of these, they are both as shot with the exception of matching the white balance.
