Your reasoning is a bit off there. You can get focus confirmation with a manual focus lens, such as one adapted from another mount, if you have a chipped adapter. I don't see why why Canon wouldn't do this with the 65mm.
Well, I understand what you are saying, namely that there is a possibility of having both manual focus and some sort of "confirmation" light (albeit not an AF confirmation). So again, I do understand what you're saying.
But with the MP-E it goes a little deeper than that, and if you "don't see why" Canon doesn't offer an electronic means of confirming focus, let me remind/inform you that the MP-E doesn't even focus at all, let alone have AF.
The ring on the MP-E lens only changes magnification (from 1x - 5x), but there is no actual "focusing" element to the lens: you must either physically move forward, or backward, in order to achieve a "visual" focus when using this lens.
So this is why the MP-E 65 doesn't have "focus confirmation" at all ... it doesn't have any focusing elements ... it only magnifies within a certain range ... while you must physically get the lens closer, or farther, to achieve focus.
Hope this clarifies
