7D vs 5DII for ISO

Methinketh you should re-work you lens line up.

24 and 30?

15-85 variable aperture. 7-2/4. Why not ditch the 30 and pick up an 85/1.8? Or 135/2? Since weddings in low-light environment seems to be a significant part of your repertoire, you might as well shoot w/ the right lenses.

Shooting the 7D w/ 15-85 would be similar to shooting with a 5D2 w/ 24-105/4. That's not really the "go-to" zoom for most wedding photogs I've seen.

A lot of times flash is prohibited in wedding services. OP, instead of looking to buy another body you may want to consider the prime route, if your gear list is accurate you're missing a couple of primes that are essential for indoor wedding services.

I only have both the 24 and 30 because iv only just purchased the 24L lol, im selling my sigma and i am buying the sigma 85mm f1.4 maybe also pick up the 70-200 MKII

The difference is not constant. It's not possible to say "it's <x> f-stops better". It varies with what iso speed we are talking about and other conditions. The noise reduction that is built into the 7D is pretty powerful and nothing keeps you from turning it up or down and then the results change.

The 7d never beats the 5d2, though.

Then of course some feel the 5d2 exposes a little less for the same iso markings so whatever difference you perceive you might want to cut off some margin if you find this to be true for you.

A little off topic here, but how does the 7D noise compare with the T2i? I've been looking to upgrade to the 5D2, but with the 5D3 coming around soon, I may just get a 7D for now.

I think ill end up swapping my glass around a bit, and buying a 5DII as a second body maybe around christmas time

Get yourself a used 5d...there at bargin prices right now and its so close to the 5dll for iso I think you would be suprised...the 7d noise over lets say 800 is dreadful...and if you dont think so go to ken rockwells sight and see all the real life comparisons...the 7d cant hold a candle to the old 5d...no less the 5dll. Unless you like spending all your time doin post work on the 7d files..

That's what he *says*, but it's not true. The 7D also says he never drinks, but I don't believe it for a second. Last time I put him in the camera bag with my 5D2, the 7D came out smelling like whiskey and the 5D2 had scuff marks all over.

That is true for photon shot noise in ample light (low ISO), but it's very untrue for any type of noise in low light (high ISO).

I doubt that the difference in metering and highlight headroom were correctly handled in comparison.

Well Iam too old to get into any pissin matches here...I enjoy this forum and love reading the posts and enjoying all the great captures posted from all over the world...I will say that my 7d is great for my birding out side in good light...but when I move indoors I grab the old 5d

Do you own any of the bodies you mentioned? The part I bolded is absolute nonsense and it sounds like you're just regurgitating the common nonsense posted around the internet. Yeah, if you follow KR's advice and shoot JPG only I suppose you wouldn't be very happy. I don't understand this either, in LR you can group your images by ISO speed and sync NR for each group. Easy.

This comment is hilarious. You made a ridiculous statement and when challeneged accused people of starting a pee contest and run without responding. Typical response from someone who makes claims that go against the general consensus of those who own such bodies. If you like to shoot JPG only like Ken Rockwell I would suggest sticking with 12MP or lower for 1.6x crop bodies.
