My buddy is about to purchase the t3i and wants to obviously get the newer 55-250 lens. The only website that seems to be selling the ver II is canon. (and of course he has to pay tax) why isn't amazon, adorama, BH, etc selling this lens or selling it as part of the canon promotion

Thanks

Christian

Tell him not to bother, there's nothing worth mentioning that has been improved on the new model.

The mkII is purely a slight cosmetic change to save production costs

Really??? That's good to know but just the fact that if he wanted to sell the lens, I would think down the road just the name ("ver II) would have a better resale value simply because it's a so called newer lens. I'm driving in my car at the moment, but what is canon claiming they did differently with the upgrade??

They changed a few minor details like how they print some information on to the lens etc.

If anything the new one should be cheaper but it wont be.

I'm told if you bundle the lens with the t3i, it says ver II on Canons website.
