No the Kiwi's aren't that stupid! I believe these are new build SH-2G without all the super sexy over the top software we tried to cram into our sprites which was never going to work!

Maybe someone from NZ will jump on with more info.

And Australia was the idiots hiring back our old aircraft at a cost well above what we sold them for I believe?

These are really nice shots of it. Somehow though, I don't think that the name "Sprite" fits? ;)

That was my favorite helicopter in the US Navy inventory when I was in..if I had gone helos, that would have been my first choice. Nicely done.

Ours being canceled probably hasn't helped NZ. While we were operating in NZ I saw 2 operating in Whenuapai with the Hueys & then these 2 at Woodburne so that seems to indicate that 4 were up, I guess working up for the world cup?

I've got shots of nz3602 & 04 both up at the same time @ Whenuapai - so at one time they must have been at least two flyable! Interesting you mention the cup, saw (or rather heard) 4 choppers up in formation one evening last week and only the tail-end charlie had nav lights. We're just down the road from Eden park...
