Hi all! Would love to hear what you guys think about a few shots I took of a friend of mine. These are shot on a Canon 550D and a Canon 85mm 1.8.

The first one....subject too dark
Second one....would like to see his mouth. Plus too much OOF foreground for my taste (distracting).

Agree that the first one is too dark, and the face is a bit soft. I dont mind the foreground elements in the second, but the arm/hand seems to be obscuring too much of his face, with no payoff.

Thanks guys! I actually asked him to put his hand in the way in the second shot to hide the smile just a bit. I liked the fact that you could see it just barely in coy type of way...

I have no problem with hiding part of his face, but the arm just doesnt seem to work.

on the second one all the colors steal attention
I had to force myself to look at his face

After the photosession, she said :"Your camera takes great pictures!" to which I replied "I saw the report you presented, your computer prepares nice reports!"

The BW image looks flat, most likely due to under exposure. I actually like the second shot. Colorful foreground, and the subject looks playful. :) nice combination. But I would've used a smaller aperture, say f4, to give the bottles a bit of "form".

Depends upon what they are for. Candids, looks good. PR photos for a restaurant in LA, maybe. Profile for an F500, no.
