I borrowed a friend's 100-400 for the weekend to shoot the air and water show (hopefully no rain on Saturday - forecast is somewhat iffy). I'll actually be inside in a relative's high rise apartment that is almost parallel with the flight height of many of the planes. Should I set IS to mode 2 for panning, and just use a higher shutter speed to get rid of the rest of the motion blur? Also, do you use AI servo or one shot? I have a 60D.

Cameras: 7D2, S100
Lenses: 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM, 18-135 STM, 24-70 f/4L IS USM, 50 f/1.4 USM,70-300L IS USM
Other Stuff: 430 EX II, Luma Labs Loop 3, CamRanger

Right or wrong I don't know, but here's what I do with my 7D and a 100-400L at an air show.
When shooting jets on a bright clear day I used as high a shutter speed as I can get and turn IS OFF.
When shooting prop planes I set the shutter speed to 250 or less (so that the prop looks like it is spinning) and turn IS on to position 2.

I used AI Servo.

I'm sure other people will come up with different ways to shoot at an air show, but this has worked real good for me over the years.

You may want to direct your question here. It will probably be less likely to get lost in a sea of lens threads. One piece of advice is to practice with the 100-400 ahead of time so that you are familiar with its zooming mechanism (push pull).
