It's all BS until the official announcement.

Where do you guys here these things? Seriously, I'd love to read up on some of these things but don't know how serious to take some of the stuff I've found in the net.

That's kind of the point of the rumor .. Canon is supposedly going to "blend" APS-H and FF into a new line of cameras that will have XMk performance but an XsMk sensor size.

Like the man said, BS until it happens...

Seemingly they are merging the two models 1D/1Ds, how true this is, who knows

So..the ID MkV would be going FF(according to this rumor)? There go the prices.. up to 1DsIII levels. Would this eliminate one or the other, then,,basically a 1D V with FF, or a 1Ds IV with fast burst, focus, and other goodies. It would be nice to eliminate APS-H.. it's sort of in the middle..crop-wise, and many focal lengths don't particularly suit it so well.

A lot of photogs seem to LIKE the APS-H sensor. It should be called the "Goldilocks" of sensors...Not too short (Full Frame), not too long (APS-C), JUST RIGHT!!

Photographers do it in 1/1,000th of a second...but the memory lasts forever! ;)

Having two APS-H bodies myself, I have no idea where the heck you're coming from with your last statement. Which focal lengths might those be?

standard zooms and wide angles come to mind. 17-40 is like a 22-52 and 24-70 is like a 31-90. There's really no 1.3x specific lenses like there are for FF and 1.6x crop.

Well I guess it boils down to perception. To me, the difference between APS-H and FF is operationally negligible.

I've yet to encounter a shooting situation where 24-70 doesn't work for "normal walking around" and the 17-40 is still very wide @ 17mm.

But you can't have very wide to short telephoto in one lense like with the 24-70 or 24-105. I know it can be worked around and shouldn't really limit your work, but it means more lenses and more lens swaps. It's not something those on the other two sensor sizes have to worry about.

Too bad the 17-55 f2.8 couldn't have been made 1.3x compatible, too. Then it would be 22-71mm equiv on 1.3x and 27-88 on 1.6x.

There's nothing to work around...

I have two bodies with matching sensor sizes and through them is how I see the world.
There is no crop and there is no FF equivalent. It simply is what it is.

Glad it works well for you. For someone coming from a different crop factor, however, they may consider it a big deal that they can't get the zoom ranges and angles of view they are used to.
