Well, hey, it's been pretty nice clear skies in the Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA skies over the past few nights, so in the past three out of four nights I've woken up and set up with my tripod, the 100-400 lens and a 1.4x TC -- a lot of reach, and I did some fiddling with MF, but most of these shots were done with AF, and I'm happy with them -- honestly, for pure detail I think their my best moon shots:

Those are some really nice shots - well done and thanks for sharing.
If I'm being super critical, I like the later ones better - more detail in the half moon - but there also seems to be a lot of noise/grain in these shots. Are they over processed slightly?

I'm going to guess you're resizing the first few shots because the moon seems to be getting bigger despite slight differences in focal length. If the later pics are 100% crops (and the others aren't) then that could explain the noise difference.

Although it could just be oversharpening...are you using unsharp mask for sharpening?

oh and nice shots btw! it's nice to see shots that aren't overprocessed, in regards to contrast...and by that I mean my stuff :P
I'm trying to tone that down.

Hey, thanks!

Honestly, I just tossed these all together late at night each time! I don't think any of them are 100% crops but they are all pretty hefty crops. Not heavy processing but run through basic Lightroom like I said, late at nightQ

And, I don't know about noise/grain. Each set seemed to have a lot of nice detail, and I just haven't noticed noise/grain. You can of course overdo sharpening, and I think I backed off a bit on that on the first set.
