This picture http://www.flickr.com …7/sizes/l/in/photostream/ (external link)

When viewed in flickr using IE9, displays slighty muted reds compared to the original in Lightroom 3. It was uploaded to flickr using LR's built in flickr publishing tool. If you download and save the picture from flickr and view in LR it is ok, view it in windows photogallery it is ok, but view the downloaded version in IE9 and again it is muted. IE9 is supposed to be color managed but is it?

Is it a colorspace issue or is it an IE9 issue?

AFAIK, IE9 assumes sRGB for monitor display. If so, it's not correctly colormanaged.

To give more input, you'll have to post the image with the Exif included -- I can't tell what color space the image is in.

Without knowing the specifics of the color spaces you are using, that red on the PFD is maybe (probably?) going to be out of gamut somewhere in the process of getting this image conditioned for sRGB - in addition to making the final image sRGB (and embedding the profile for color aware applications) you may need to do some slight tweaking of that red to get it into sRGB gamut the way you want it to appear. Otherwise, you will be depending upon the conversion from, say, aRGB or ProPhoto RGB to sRGB and the rendering intent you choose to do the conversion. This may not produce the results you desire.

Rene my monitor is calibrated using a spyder3 express. Does that mean it is not sRGB? What does firefox do? Does it use the OS profile?

Is Internet Explorer v9 finally "colour-managed" as it were? I know previous versions were not, and that only Mozilla's Firefox was properly "colour-managed." In Firefox, you can type into the browser's address bar about:config (I think) and bring up it's many many many "behind-the-scenes" settings. One of which is turning on/off colour-management. Google it. You'll see. It might even be set to 'ON' as default too.

I made the swtich to Firefox for this reason a long while ago when I started to edit and worry about colour, and haven't reverted back since.

Thing is that an sRGB jpeg store on my computer displays fine in Lightroom, Canon DPP and windows picture viewer. Open the same file from the computer HD in IE9 and it is wrong. So on file stored in one place displays differently in IE compared to all other viewers.

It is supposed to be and if you view this site through IE9 that is passes all it tests. I'm begining to think the fault is with IE be I just wanted to be sure that is not a problem with my work flow.

So, the shot you posted a bit ago is in the sRGB color space. Nothing I open it in comes up as saturated as that screen shot you posted originally -- Bridge, Camera Raw, DPP and Windows Photo Viewer all show up pretty much the same as my IE 8 browser, although I don't expect things to be exactly the same.

I wonder what is going on with my setup then? That screen shot was a bit compressed here is an other.

IE 9 Color managed.

Firefox will read embedded/tagged profiles within an image and then convert it to match your monitors for proper display. Safari does the same, IE9 Does not!. IE9 assumes your monitor is sRGB and doesn't honor any other profile. Fine for some people, but not for those of us who use a wide gamut display.
Too bad Chrome isn't color managed.

Ok thanks I am beinging to just write this off as an IE9 fault, although Tony said his IE8 was similar to other applications.

Just for kick can any one double check these color settings I have in Vista. System defaults are in the bottom image.

Thanks for everyone patience with this.

Your OS settings are irrelevant (in this case). The one important fact is whether your monitor is wide gamut. If you don't know, post the make and model.
