I just bought a 30D and the internal flash was sticking down and the camera gave me err05 message. I then gently pulled the flash up as I pressed the flash release button and the flash came up and worked fine. I worked the latch back and forth a couple times then closed the flash to see if it would work and it took a couple clicks? of the latch before the flash actually came up. I repeated this about ten times and eventually the flash came up on the first try. But once I put the camera down for a few minutes and came back to it, the problem arose again and I had to repeat the process of popping it up and down again. After reading other posts I thought it was the all too familiar hotshoe button problem. but the button is clearly visible and when I pushed it down with a safety pin, the internal flash latch did not even click. The guy I bought the camera from said that he hasn't used it in a while so I'm guessing that the flash just needed some exercise. Or maybe there is some kind of lubricating that needs to be done. Was hoping if anyone could give some advice to a rookie? Thanks in advance...

I have the same problem with my 50D. Maybe.

In my case the flash sticks because the latch isn't adjusted perfectly and when the flash is closed the latch isn't fully seated.

My solution is to close the flash by pushing firmly on the right side of the cover, just above the latch, making sure I hear the latch click. When I do that it opens properly.

Thanks for the welcome and for the input! Wish my first post was a little happier.

Well after a day of messing around with the camera, I have found that once I force the flash up and push it up and down a few times it works fine. But once I put the camera down and came back to it the problem arises all over again. After searching through the forums I think I have found the perfect solution to my problem. A Speedlite

I bought a 20D 2nd time quite a while back that did that. The previous owner apologised saying they never used the built-in flash. I left the body sitting with the flash up for a couple of nights and it never stuck again up until a year later when I sold it (and I VERY rarely used the built-in flash myself).
