Those of you out there who shoot portraits, do you ever let other photographers know the locations where you shoot or do you keep those a secret?

I only ask because tonight is the first time I've been asked by another photographer about where I shoot because he's looking for new places to shoot.

Read that. There's no need to be a jerk and hide locations from people. What's going to happen when you see a location in another photog's photos that you want to shoot at? Share, share, share!

Some people don't tell their secret locations. I can understand the logic depending on the location. You may not want drove of photogarphers coming to your secret spot. I am usually pretty open.

I tell people to find their own locations (but not so bluntly). I put a lot of time and money into finding them for my clients. Unique locations is something my clients are paying extra to get. If they find one of my spots and use it there's nothing I can do about that but I'm not going to essentially do their work for them by telling them how to get there.

It's not like I'm going to ask them where they shoot. I don't intentionally use places other people have already used.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

It depends on the location. I do have a few "secret" ones, that I would like to keep that way.
More than a few of them are privately owned. I have a good relationship with the owners, and they let me use them for free. I don't want to jeopardize that. I'm pretty sure the owners wouldn't like having random photographers calling them every other day.

My absolute favorite location is somewhat of an open secret. Anyone familiar with the area, will instantly recognize it from a photo. Many love it as much as I do but the high price of renting it, keeps pretty much everyone away :)
