thanks!

Capitol peak is said to be the hardest 14er to summit in Colorado. It is located in the Elk mountains west of Snowmass/ Aspen. that is 20 percent of the actual filesize :) The hike took us a total of 14 hours from the trailhead and back. We started all the way down the valley beyond the lake at left center at 4am. once reaching Capitol lake we took switch backs up and over the ridge at left center. Then the technical climbing began. We took a ridge line which is blocked by the foreground in center. Summited K2, and then on the top of Capitol. It was a day I will never forget. Look up "Capitol knife edge" on youtube to get an idea of the exposure we faced.

a few more snaps from the day to follow....

Our first clear view of the days mission. Capitol peak is furthest to the left.

as we reached this part of the switchbacks we heard a distant "ripping" and echoing sound, and realized it was giant rocks tumbling down the face, knocked loose by climbers who got an earlier start than we did.

This is the view of Capitol peak from the summit of K2. The scale is hard to comprehend, but the final technical climb (no ropes) would take us another two hours. The infamous knife ridge stretches out before us.

a closer view of one of the knifes. Very exposed. When you knocked a rock loose, it tumbled a few hundred feet, and then sailed off into nothingness.

also have a video of crossing one of these if you are interested.

and after a very long, oxygen deprived journey, you struggle to write your name in the register which marks the journeys of those who have come before you. Beaming with pride in one's achievement, and trying to grasp onto a newfound understanding of how elastic your personal limits are when tackling a seemingly impossible undertaking with focus and perseverance.

Congratulations! My fear of heights would never allow me such an undertaking. Consider straightening the horizon and cropping the first shot (pano).
