what the wedding party does while waiting their turn

shooting the bride & groom & parents at 105, i pulled up the xsi on my hip and got this at 18. makes me think of an old 70s life magazine style article - "weddings in the heartland" or some such thing. thoughts?

um, so sorry to have disappointed. let me try to address the complaints as i understand them:

a) sorry, i'm new here. i didn't see it in the rules, but i may have overlooked it. what is the required number to post to ask for input on the one shown above?

d) thanks for addressing the question. seriously (see b). yeah, it is a simple snapshot, basically. i just found the composition to be rather interesting. not so much, eh? i try things. some of 'em work, some of 'em don't.

easy, man. i wasn't trying to rag on you in any way. i'm simply giving you an outsider's opinion, which is what i can only assume you wanted by posting it on a public forum. it was a nice location and a great sky, but i'm just not seeing anything in this photo that makes it a "keeper".

welcome to POTN, and you're going to have to grow some thicker skin to post around here. i learned quickly that you can't always please everyone, and to take criticism (whether constructive or not) in a stride.

actually your response, being the only useful one, was what i was looking for - you nailed it - an outsider's opinion. my thanks was sincerely directed to you, and i appreciate the time you took for your follow-up comment.

and i appreciate the sentiment behind the welcome, i think i've got a pretty thick skin for my work (we'll see, heh) - unfortunately, i don't seem to have a lot of patience for replies that appear to serve no other purpose than to inflate a post count. are you serious? (yes) just one pic? (um, yes, i'm only asking about one)

that may get me thrown out on my ear here, i hope not, but i'm kinda pointed sometimes. that's not always appreciated. i do my best.

and lastly, the largest shortcoming of the interwebs is probably that nobody can see my sardonic grin whilst i type.

thanks, allie. let me ask this - you're right, from the outside, it is nothing more than a group of people standing around. except that it's a wedding. which means that every individual in the shot will have an emotional attachment to other people in the shot, and to the day. does this change the perception?

iow, this is the entire wedding party - so instead of the same old lineup, i was wondering if a little separation would lend a little interest. apparently not. it happens. thanks for your response.

I think we have a case of misunderstanding, from all points of view.


On a side note, you were shooting a wedding and had set up the B&G+parents for a shot, and while they are looking at you and waiting for you to take their photo you decided to whip out your xsi and shoot something totally different?

yup, i did. i had already shot that, and asked them to hold still for another quick one. they did. xsi was on a sling - took about 4 seconds.

to have a successful photo you need a subject to focus on.

the people in this photo are way to small. essentially this is a photo of grass.... which isnt very interesting
