Made it downtown this morning to catch the last run of the Red Bull F1 car. There is no way to explain how sexy that damn motor sounds, esp when it's echoing though the streets (well, I guess if you have seen a F1 race in person, you have). But how many of you have had a F1 car doing donuts 10ft in front of you? I wish I could of got better pictures, but I was having to hold the camera over head in the good ole pray and spray method. I'm just glad I got a couple of shots..

I'm so jealous. Can't wait for the race next year.

I totall agree about the sound. You can certainly hear (and feel) the raw power of these engines. An experience never forgotten. Nice captures.

Currently just a P&S, but watch this space.

It was a lil sad. He wasn't able to go past 2nd gear in the runs (very short, maybe 2-3 blocks total before he had to do a turn around).

But yes, I can't wait till the race next November. Wonder what tickets will run and wonder if I can sneak a 400 5.6L into the race.. :)

I was there too. I was fortunate enough to get a good spot. BTW, I have been to the F1 race in Montreal 4 times and you were able to bring in whatever camera/lens you wanted. I hope the US GP is the same.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Great shots! My son and I were there (we're in a few of your pics!) and it was amazing!

I agree, it was incredible. I had no idea when I went down there that we would be that up close and personal, otherwise I would have brought a shorter 2nd lens.

Would have loved to have brought mine down but he's only 16 months old...

Off topic I know, but I'm amazed at how great of a commentator he is for the F1.

I'm not all that surprised. He's extremely intelligent and well spoken, and thinks fast on his feet. He also has a great sense of humour. Sadly his Mclaren years stifled that a lot due to their very corporate culture, but since being at Red Bull he has been able to be himself, and that's also coming across in his commentary.

We spoke with him at the event and he was very friendly. If that's going to be the face of F1 then it will do very well here. In fact he even mentioned that an "elitist" attitude won't fly in the USA...

Not sure what time you guys got there but at about 8:15 or so there were only ~50 spectators. He was in between runs and just walked straight out to the crowd and started talking to us. I didn't hear anyone call him over or see his handlers send him over he just kinda walked up and said hi.

After the doughnut session when there were ~200 people and he posed for pics and answered questions. It was pretty cool.
