Apparently the previous question I posted with this title got erased while the forum was down...
That's ok...I've rethought it now.

Previously, I had asked if anyone had traveled and boarded a plane with a tripod in the side pocket of the Think Tank Airport Airstream. Not sure if anyone responded.
However, now I am also wondering if anyone has tried boarding a plane with the Airstream and a tripod in a separate tripod carrying case...how do the airline personnel react to that? Does the tripod bag count as a "carry on" or a "personal belonging?" Or is just overlooked?

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

I've often traveled with a LowePro Mini Trekker AW and a Gitzo G1227 in a Kinesis bag as well as my back pack (laptop and papers, etc). I've never had an issue. I mainly travel on Southwest airlines. They may be a little more forgiving. I generally have the Mini Trekker and Tripod in bag on my back and over my shoulders to make it look like one bag. And carry the back pack in my hand. I put the tripod in back of the over head then the Mini Trekker. The pod doesn't take up much room. I place my back pack under the seat in front. I usually have stuff I want to read or get access to my laptop.
