This was my first time shooting motorcycle racing and I had a blast. Having spent several hours at track side, I can now understand why these Superbikes are often referred to as 'Crotch Rockets'.

I have previously shot Grand Prix and Le Mans race cars, but these guys are a whole new challenge. The acceleration and speed are downright impressive. I can't believe how low these riders get to the track surface at these speeds. I don't think you have to be insane to ride these rockets, but it would certainly help.

I shot three different lenses ( 70-200/2.8 II, 300/2.8 and 500/4 ) as well as two different camera bodies ( 1D Mark IV and 7D ) with the Mark IV doing most of the work. EXIF data is attached to all images if you want to see what any given image was shot with.

Hey Andrew, you're very kind. Thanks a lot. Birding has been pretty slow the last few months.

for first time framing is very good. for the first two pictures I would set wider aperture than F8. The grass is very distracting indeed. DOF at F4 of even 2.8 whould be enough to have a rider sharp.
