I was very disapointed wit hthe camera to start with on auto, someone suggested putting it into P mode which changed everything....:)

Oh yeah. I consider "auto" the "don't use this" setting, and "P" is auto to me.

More toys!!! My Lensmate (external link) order came today, so my S95 is now rocking the custom grip, control dial solution, and filter adapter kit. Plus I rescued my Amazon order from the bowels of the building management office, so I have a nice comfy adjustable wrist strap (external link), and a decent case (external link).

It's dark in here tonight, so I'll snap some photos of the setup tomorrow for those of you wondering what it all looks like.

I would like the grip, but unfortunately my case wouldn't fit it (I like the case too much to replace)

Crap, I forgot to shoot this before I sent the dSLR off to Canon for repair. I guess I'll try to coax something useable out of the iPhone then.

Ok, finally got around to taking the promised pics. Apologies in advance for the iPhone quality.

Links to the accessories shown are at the bottom of the post.

Front view of the S95 with the Richard Franiec grip, Lensmate filter attachement, and Olympus adjustable wrist strap. With my small hands, I didn't really have a problem holding the S95 without the grip, but it's certainly more comfortable with one. The wrist strap is just a piece of soft nylon cord, but I really like that it's adjustable after a scary moment holding my S95 over the edge of a bridge with a non-adjustable (and therefore very loose) wrist strap.

Side view of the S95 with the grip and a polarizing filter attached. The filter pulls the balance forward a bit, and certainly looks a little funny :p but works very well and doesn't interfere with the zoom functionality

Side view of the S95 with filter attached, lens cap on, and the camera off. No interference with the functionality of the lens, and while the cap and filter certainly make the front a little bulky, leaving them on isn't a problem if the camera is placed in a larger case or pocket. I usually take them off and put them in the filter packet, since I use a slim case.

Side view of the S95 with grip and filter attachement, to show that it's still nice and slim. With the grip and attachment, it still fits in the (fairly) slim case that I chose, although apparently it doesn't fit in the official Canon S95 case. (I don't actually have the Canon case to confirm.)

Here is the S95 in the Case Logic case that I chose. The case fits the S95 with grip, a spare battery, and a spare SD card. It looks a little funky when open, but zips up to be about 2" thick at the widest point. I put the camera in the case with the bottom towards the zipper, so that the wrist strap sticks out and can be used to carry the camera, as I hate having to attach a 2nd wrist strap separately to the case - it always just ends up in my way.

S95 kit, all packed up: I generally leave the rocket blower at home, and the S95 in its case along with the filter kit fit nicely in a small bag for a good, lightweight city kit. I can just barely stuff this along with a small wallet into a Crumpler "The Bundle" large, and it would probably fit perfectly into a Crumpler 2 or 3 Million Dollar Home.

S95 non-OEM battery: Link (external link) (Amazon sells this at 50% off if you buy it with the S95, so I figured it was worth a try for about $9 at the time. It doesn't last quite as long as the already short life of the OEM battery, but still more than acceptable.)

Next in the search for more toys: a tiny compact tripod to go with the tiny compact camera.

LOL...While I dig the accessories and I'm going to pick up a couple of them, I couldn't get over the Quality of your pictures...the quality you initially apologized for from the iPhone! They're Awesome!!
They really are! Great job and thanks for sharing. I was curious what the LensBaby gear did to the profile and carry-ability:)

Again...Great pics!!! Were you using a support for you iPhone or handheld? I'm seriously curious!! I've got an iPhone 4 as well...and while I do snap a shot with it on occasion...I've not really taken advantage of it, I guess (after seeing your pics). I've usually got my s95 with me:)

Most of these actually turned out well. The key was good lighting, easy subject, and a steady hold. There are two windows behind where I took the photos, and I used the "tap to focus" on the iPhone to select a medium-lit spot on the camera for exposure. Then I rested the iPhone on the desk to steady it taking the picture.

Overall, the iPhone can actually take pretty good pictures, but it needs good light and a good focus/exposure point to do so. And even then, it can be pretty limiting in what you can control. The S95 is much more fun. :)

Meglet, years ago I bought a Leica table top tripod and ball-head. It works so well! I've seen some on ebay, as relative bargains.
Leica used to make a small tripod head and a large tripod head. The large one works for me; I can use the tripod as a chest pod with cameras that have an electronic view finder, or cameras such as the G11.

nice pics and i have some similar from my s95 - the filters you have came from lensmate?
tried a set of polaroid ones in 82mm for a sigma 150-500 and the lens was not sharp [Ie out of focus] on the 500 end so i used the great amazon return policy - it was like the filter glass was at an angle in the case
i got a lowepro ridge 30 case which is similar in size to your case but vertical and belt mountable, carry the s95/2extra batteries and spare 8 or 16 gig card

love the s95

wants for Ls :D , now have 400do;500f4is,600f4 :cool: off to birding and airshows:):):)
