I was just curious to hear if any other potn members use one of the Mettle brand strobes OEC Camera sells. I've had THIS (external link) model for awhile and hadn't really taken it out on location much due to it being attached to the 5' Octobox I also bought from the same seller.

Well last evening I finally had a reason to take it out and try it with the battery pack and couldn't have been happier with how it performed with the Cactus V5's and 7D. I had it dialed down to 1/32 power and was using it with a shoot through umbrella and came home with an entire card full of great images. It's made me rethink taking the YN460-II's or YN560's everytime I go portable.

Anyway the reason I posted this is I'm a happy Mettle strobe user and curious to hear others opinions on this particular brand. I almost didn't buy this particular model because I heard the owner has a history of being brief and not quite so friendly in answering questions but everyone has their quirks so I took a chance and bought it anyway. But I think I'll go ahead and order another of the 600WS next month since the price/performance is hard to beat.

By the way if anyone is wondering what I paid for the 600WS AC/DC strobe and octobox it was under $400 and had them both in 4 days standard shipping.

Here is a sample from last night.

My sister, the professional baker and cake decorator once told me that my camera takes great pics. My reply was that I thought her oven baked great cakes.

reviving a dead thread.

I've contemplated getting back into studio strobes. I did own an Einstein at one point, but did not have the battery pack, so it was rarely used and I sold it, sticking with speedlites for portability.

Now I'm debating on giving strobes a try again, but not sure if I want to sink that much cash into another einstein and getting a battery pack.

I was considering a flashpoint II 620m monolight with battery pack for $290, but then came across the Mettle brand, where for $60 more, it's a 600WS strobe with a battery pack.

do you still have yours, and have you run into any issues at all, or still happy?
