first time i am trying a flash .

camera is 7d. made the flash wireless (only ext.flash firing). in Av and Ettl mode.

when there is no much ambient light before I snap the pic. lcd obviously shows very slow shutter speed say 1/8 th of a second.

I press the shutter and take the picture imagining the ext.flash will take care of pushing my shutter speed up. But I am getting blurry images all the time.

am i doing some thing wrong???

thanks in advance for the clarification.

cheers

In AV mode the camera is exposing for ambient light and will set the shutter speed to give a properly exposed picture according to the light available and the aperture value you've set. Using a flash will not change this. You would be better to change to 'M' mode and adjust the aperture to your required value and set the shutter speed at somewhere either near the max sync speed or, if you want some ambient light in your shot, at a speed at which you can comfortably hand hold the camera. Hope that makes some sense :)
