The 5D2 shouldnt even HAVE a full auto mode! IMO only the Rebels should. Everything above that should force people to learn the tool theyve purchased.

Its good when you need to hand it to the wife.

To be fair, its possible to get excellent shots when using Full Auto mode. Composition is 9/10 of it.

Of course its important to take control of the camera to maximize the quality of your picture. But full auto could be useful when you have a split second to react. Then again, your point and shoot could be the camera for the job there.... if its already in your hand.

Just so you guys know I don't make a habit out of putting the 5D2 in 'green box' mode. Just wanted to try it and see what camera thought was right for the shot.

Here's the 5D2 and 35L on full manual: f/2 ISO 100 and raised shutter until exposure was good.

I like shooting green box mode if only to see what the effects are. I like to go back and critique them, would I have used a lower ISO, a faster shutter.

....the best camera is the one you have on you at the time.

I've NEVER used the green box, not even to see what it would be like, not even when I hand the camera over to a noob for a shot.

hey sometimes green box is the only way to do it. I know when my almost 3 year old daughter wants to use the camera I put it in greenbox, but then again a 7d has a bit much on it for her to play with.
what I find funny though is those saying the 70-200 2.8 is heavy and yet my daughter who turns three next month is able to hand hold it attached to a gripped 7d.

digital: 7d 70-200L 2.8 IS MKII, 17-55 2.8 IS

Using the green box is like riding a scooter, you do it but you'd die if caught, and you never will admit to doing so. :D

3. 5D2 always selected auto ISO which I don't approve of. You don't know what ISO setting was chosen until you look at the image data AFTER the shot is taken.
dave

Come on now! I thought it doesn't matter what ISO the 5DII used because it was full frame.:)
