Well since I broke my nifty-fifty, I've been looking for a good replacement. I want a zoom in the 18-200 range, or somewhere in that range. So far the Canon 28-135 IS and the EF-S 18-135 IS are at the top of the list. But wouldn't mind hearing from people who have, or had the Sigma's or Tamron's 18-200's? I'm on a super tight budget or I would love to get a better quality zoom lens someday, but I'm in need of something now, that will be decent good quality pictures. So any responses will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Grady

Keep in mind, a super zoom lens won't give you the best IQ. You will sacrifice IQ for convenience.

If you are on a budget, I suggest Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 non VC

That's a looser budget than "tight". Relatively speaking. ;)

The Tammy is a great "normal" zoom and a relatively good price for such.

The reason I'm on a super tight budget is because I lost my job in May. I'm getting some money, hopefully by the end of the week. So I'm hoping to buy some good, but probably used lenses. I've seen and heard good things about the Tamron 17-50 and will look into maybe getting one of those and maybe a 70-200mm also. But whatever I do get will have to do for awhile, till I find a job. Thanks again for the responses.

If you are on a tight budget, why not just get a 18-55 IS? And if you want a telezoom you should still have funds for a 55-250 IS. Those lenses both deliver image quality above their price grade.

an 18-55 IS + 55-250 will give you better quality at lower price than almost any superzoom. They would be my recommendation. If you can push your budget a bit more, then the tamron 17-50 non-VC or sigma 17-70 OS + canon 55-250 is an even better combo while still on a budget.

I just got my 15-85mm and it is a great walk around lens. It can also take macro shots.

If your looking for 18-55 and 55-250, I can sell you mine. :)

I'm hoping with money I get Ill be able to get a good used Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 or the Tamron's version too. But if not might look into the 55-250 IS.

I may also add I have friends that want me to take their family pictures. I do those from time to time for extra money. Would love to do it full-time, but its hard to get started with all the setbacks I have had in the past.

You said you were looking in the 18-200mm range, so why not consider the EF-S 18-200mm lens? I had one and it was a great lens. It is reasonably fast for a zoom lens, has AF and IS, is sharp (at least mine was), and it won't break the bank. I only sold mine to get the 24-105L, otherwise I would still be happily snapping away with it. In my opinion, it is one of the most underrated lenses and without reason.
