Any other suggestions? I want a flip lock not a twist lock but cant find one. I like how the Manfrotto 055XPROB center column can swing out. Any others that do that?

Gitzo explorer but its a twist lock. Other brands like Vanguard and Benbo have it but you're specifically going for Gitzo.

The Manfrotto 055XPROB has everything your looking for.

1. Horizontal center column feature.
2. Flip locks.

You might want to see if you can demo a Benbo then either 1 or 2.

There is also an aluminum alloy Gitzo ExPlorer

Get a Berlebach then. Wood is the best vibration dampener available.

I just ordered a Giotto's MTL 9360. You can check it out at the Giotto's web site, obviously but Amazon, B&H and Adorama all carry it.

I've put mine through hell for three years now. Still looks great and NO problems with it at all.

Let's just say it isn't cold to the touch in the winter like metal tripod legs.
