Yeah, this is another 7D vs 5D2.

In my experience with both cameras, I conclude that the 7D is the better camera (for me).

The 7D can do anything that the 5d2 does. I'm sure a lot will say 5D2 has one stop ISO advantage, but with proper tecnik:D this is not a problem with the 7D. Look for TeamSpeed's threads.....

Edit:
Yes I had both but sold the 5D2.

If you have to have one, you picked a good one. I have both, need both, and see advantages of having both. I hope you enjoy the 7D. What exactly did you want us to say to you as you started this thread? Congratulations on choosing one vs. the other? There are plenty of these threads here in the forum. Let us know so we don't repeat.

Well the rebels can sure be good, and I'm not saying the 7D nor the 5D2 can take better pictures, but sometimes better gear can help you achieve a better result for your intended pupose.

In my case, I can't justify keeping both camera and I had to choose 1, that is why I chose hte 7D which is more versatile.

Both are awesome cameras but I wouldn't consider either a very good 'bang for the buck'.

I suppose this depends on how many of those "bucks" you've got sitting around.

Right now, I think the 5D is the best bang for the buck.

1DsII is a great bang for buck camera. 16mp, full frame, awesome AF, weather sealing and you can pick them up for about 1/4 of what they retailed for new. I think the 5D classic is also great bang for buck!

I agree with the above and would also like to toss in the 40D as a "BANG FOR YOUR BUCK" camera. This camera seems to go for between $400 and $550 used and is extremely capable.

I am a firm believer that lenses are more important than camera. I shot an entire two-week China trip with a combination of 30D and 40D cameras. However, I now use the 40D and a 7D as my two camera set-up along with 17-55mm f/2.8 IS and 70-200mm f/4L IS lenses.

I will certainly agree that the full frame camera does have advantages but this is not to say that excellent images cannot be done with 1.6x cameras...

Looking at this scientifically, we could agree that bang for the buck can be represented by the forumla:

value = bang / buck...

Where bang = 0 - 100 representing overall IQ, capability, and ergonomics
And buck = $ spent to obtain the camera
And value = the normalized value of the purchase (the bigger the number, the better)...

SO.... Suppose a 5d2 (which I own) has a "bang" of 90, but cost $2400 for the body:

value = 90 / 2400 = .0375

And a 7D (which I also own) has a bang of 85, but cost me $1800 for the body:

value = 85 / 1800 = .04722

Thus illustrating that the 7D gives more bang for the buck.

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!

Someone just gave me a Rebel XT (AKA 350D) for free. It takes great pics...

value = 60 / $0 = infinity.

Wow looks like the Rebel just kicked the 5d2 and 7D's butt. Hey don't glare at me, it's math and math don't lie. :)

The 60D would have to be considered one of the best bang for the buck cameras right now.

Define "best".

Everyone will have a different idea what's "best" for them.

"Bang" is another big variable, depending upon the user's needs.

Try using a sledge hammer to drive tacks... or a tack hammer to drive railroad spikes.

"Buck" is a third variable... Assuming we're talking about the U.S. "buck", it ain't worth what it was just a couple years ago (blame Geitner and Quantitative Easing) and varies daily in relation to other currency.

78% of statistics are made up on the spot... including this one.
