Across current EOS dslr line-up, for the average enthusiast, 60D is best bang for $.

All time best bang for $.... with an avg street price of $400, a used 40D is hard to beat.

Another 7vs5 thread...
Sure 7d is capable of taking still pictures.
If OP is happy it is main thing.
My 500d is BBfB camera for me.
Every time I'm taking pictures of birds, airshows and sports I have enough keepers to see no reason for 7D.
And I have no reason to buy 5D MK II, because I have 5Dc, which is BBfB for taking of still pictures for me.

I've owned far to many of these cameras (including a 7D), but at the moment the best bang for buck is obviously going to come from the used market.

1. 350D/XT - Had one, have great shots I took with it, it is now dirt cheap, the minute I sold it my wife suddenly wants a small cheap lightweight DSLR (gotta love her). Wish I'd never sold it.

2. 40D - Had two and they are great only went to the 50D's to get more crop room for my street shots, beats the 50D on BfB at the current prices.

3. 1DSII - It's a 1DSII, it's cheaper than a 5DII and about the same price as a 7D but it's FF and can easily fend off rain, muggers and my 2yr old. The battery lasts longer than the life cycle of the sun and it helps you lose weight when you use it.

Currently Using - Fujifilm X-E1 | XF 18-55 f/2.8-4 R OIS || Bodies Owned - Canon 1DS II | 5D MKII | 7D | 50D's | 40D's | 450D | 350D | Lenses Owned - Canon 17-40 f/4L | 24-70 f/2.8L | 24-105 f/4L IS | 70-200 f/2.8L IS MKII | 70-200 f/4L IS | Sigma 85 f/1.4 | Many other lenses and film bodies/lenses.

Looking at this scientifically, we could agree that bang for the buck can be represented by the forumla:

value = bang / buck...

Where bang = 0 - 100 representing overall IQ, capability, and ergonomics
And buck = $ spent to obtain the camera
And value = the normalized value of the purchase (the bigger the number, the better)...

SO.... Suppose a 5d2 (which I own) has a "bang" of 90, but cost $2400 for the body:

value = 90 / 2400 = .0375

And a 7D (which I also own) has a bang of 85, but cost me $1800 for the body:

value = 85 / 1800 = .04722

Thus illustrating that the 7D gives more bang for the buck.

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!

Someone just gave me a Rebel XT (AKA 350D) for free. It takes great pics...

value = 60 / $0 = infinity.

Wow looks like the Rebel just kicked the 5d2 and 7D's butt. Hey don't glare at me, it's math and math don't lie. :)

Needs a weighted formula to account for preference for bokeh potential, focusing speed, and feel.

bang/buck = [(Image quality)(B)(S)(F)]/cost

/nerd :)

I have to agree somewhat. I have an old XTi that owes me nothing, is worth a buck or two more, and takes great shots. So for me is the best bang for buck.
I wouldn't keep it over my 7D tho ;)

I got the 50D from Canon thru the CLP ... at ($750 - $250 I sold the 28-135 for) = appr. $500 I feel the bang/buck was quite high. Love the feel of the body and the microfocus adjust. Hope someday Canon adds this back in to an "prosumer" camera body (65D anyone?) instead of leaving just in the pro 7D and above.
