Got an opportunity to dump my Sigma 50mm f1.4 on someone who will be using it for video purposes. I did not feel bad selling to them (with full disclosure of course) about my issues with this lens. They were fine with it since it is strictly for video...
As a result I will have some funds with which to do some upgrading. I have really enjoyed the sharpness of the 17-55 and although it is not as near the subject isolation I get with the Sigma, at f2.8, the Canon is wicked sharp and with IS I can hand hold in pretty dim situations. The only issue is that is a a big honkin' lens!
Bottom line is this. With about $980, I was thinking:
70-200f4L IS or 70-200 f2.8 NON-IS (used of course)
#1 - This gives me 17-55 f2.8, 85mm f1.8, 70-200 f4LIS or f2.8
OR
Since the 70-200 is mostly an outdoor lens for me, should I go 70-200f4L and get a Sigma 30mm (thoroughly tested of course!) or Canon 50mm f1.4
Since the 17-55 is so big, sometimes it is nice to take of the grip off the 7D or grab the XSi, and just go with a single prime for a nice lightweight package. That's where the 30 or 50 would come in...
#2 - This would give me 17-55 f2.8, 30/50mm f1.4, 85mm f1.8, 70-200 f4
The latter seems more well rounded, but the IS on a long lens would be nice. A potential 3rd option - Option #1 with a $100 add for a 50mm f1.8 II? This would provide a definite light lens, and with the 7D's high ISO capability, I could stop down for sharpness (I had to on the Sigma anyway!)...
#3 - This gives me 17-55 f2.8, 50mm f1.8, 85mm f1.8, 70-200 f4LIS or f2.8
Thoughts? I shoot mostly family snapshots and vacations. I like car shows, and some urban night shooting as well. Some feeble attempts at fun portraits for neighbor's kids and stuff like that. Not a pro, do not get paid...
Thanks in advance...
