Before last month I really had no good images of Eider ducks. While camping on our piece of land near Pointe-Sapin on the Northumberland Strait in Northeast New Brunswick, I managed to photograph a number of eiders over a couple of days. In particular there was a large flock of about 30 birds resting on a sand bar.
As nice as it was the drakes unfortunately were moulting and in transition plumage so I didn't get any in their beautiful breeding plumage.
1. A pair of drakes swims by
2. A female takes a drink before entering the water.
3. A drake pauses during his preening.
4. Close-up of a drake in transition plumage.
5. A drake flaps his wings. - My favourite of the series.
6. A small flock of hens rest at dusk. Unlike the other images this one was the taken on Grand Manan on the Bay of Fundy.
