They're great cars, I drive a VW Rabbit, but even a souped up passat is not Audi S series.

By the time you took a Passat and put he money into it that you would need to in order to achieve S4 performance you haven't saved yourself all that much. The Audi also has some nicer options. You are also dealing with a heavily modified VW versus a stock Audi. Typically the brakes are upgraded on the S series as well, a higher performance transmission, undercarriage, couldn't tell you but you are going to have some other performance upgrades as well.
