What kind of moron buys a car like that for it's fuel efficiency?

I was doing some reading on those cars but, I'm prefectly happy with my VW beetle.:p

Because they are still very nice cars?

It's more of the other way around anyway, the Audi's are developed and the technology trickles down later on into the VW's.

A VW branded comparable car. I will bet a Passat. I seriously looked at the high end VW Phaeton, but they stopped selling it here in the USA.

There is no comparable VW car to the S4/S5.

Or buy a SEAT (Pronounced "Se-at"). Has the A4 and A6 engines, same body, but not the shell, and is cheaper than a VW :D

SEAT's aren't really available in the US, I doubt they would be much cheaper if they were as VW's are already a heck of a lot cheaper here than just about anywhere else in the world.

That and the A4/A6 engines aren't even close to the S4/S5 engines. :p

They're great cars, I drive a VW Rabbit, but even a souped up passat is not Audi S series. :p

A4/A6
S4/S6
R4/R6

depends on the model...they all share the same engines.

The 4 and 6 series may, but the S and A series do not.

The S4 is running a Supercharged V6, VW doens't offer a supercharged V6 period. By the time you took a Passat and put he money into it that you would need to in order to achieve S4 performance you haven't saved yourself all that much. The Audi also has some nicer options. You are also dealing with a heavily modified VW versus a stock Audi. Typically the brakes are upgraded on the S series as well, a higher performance transmission, undercarriage, couldn't tell you but you are going to have some other performance upgrades as well.

Now... if you wanted to talk like A4, a GLI can come pretty close to a base A4 with it's 2.0T, but it's still not quite the same. Now... if you are strictly talking about speed you could get say a GTI to be faster than a S4/S5 but it's not going to be nearly as nice all around.

Normally the engines you see in this generations VW's are those from the last gen Audi's.

^^^agree, on both...I did a cursory compare and good VW are pricey too and can cost as much as an Audi with the better trims and specs.
