doesn't Sigma make their lenses in Sony Mount as well?

They do, the problem is, when i was looking, They are only making the new in-lens OS versions for many lenses, And i dont see the point in paying for the in-lens OS on the Sony as the Sony has built in Steady Shot....it seems redundant to me...

The 70-200 thats fair with pricing I guess, but the Nikon and Canon DO have optical IS/VR in them, the Sony doesnt, The optics on the Sony are also a bit...Eh from what I saw..Heres it VS the Nikon 70-200, at 70 the Sony is a little better, but at 200 the Nikon is a lot better...Keep in mind, this is on the 12mp a700, So whats it going to be like on the 24mp a77?!

http://www.dpreview.com …viewConfiguration.xml%3F1 (external link)

Heres VS the Canon Mk II on a 7D...Even with the higher res 7D the Canon comes out on top

http://www.dpreview.com …viewConfiguration.xml%3F1 (external link)

I wont post the Sigma OS result because DPReviews copy isnt as good as some I've seen...The Sony is closest in performance to the Sigma OS, IE, its really not worth the money..

The Macro however, The Sony uses screwdrive AF for one, not AF-S or USM, for two it extends while focusing

http://www.photozone.de …ens-tests/378-sony_100_28 (external link)

It also lacks VR/IS in lens like the Canon or Nikon (We're talking about -cost- Not the fact the camera body has it) and its not weather sealed like the Canon or the Nikon...

hahahaha  ok Kenji you need to wait a bit more... they need to improve their lenses first, I was under the impression that Sony lenses are made by Zeiss  :o

Nick go buy that light for me using your performance discount. I'll paypal you the money and you can talk to your friend while making the purchase ;)

How many times do I have to say it..

She doesn't work at performance. :p

Also, I don't get a discount, I just get a % back as a credit.

Canon and Nikon are the big boys... Sony is trying to gain some steam. The A77 seems like it's headed in the right direction. I'm sure Sony already has it's fanboys. ;)

Yeah, I wish Sony would offer some price breaks on their glass though, a lot of it is pretty harshly priced..

Sure the 135mm f/1.8 isnt overpriced, i actually feel its fairly priced, But some of the other things just seem bad right now....The 70-200 for instance i think is grotesquely overpriced when you can get the Canon or Nikon non-stabilized 70-200 for about a grand...and the Sigma 70-200 HSM for $800...

well I guess you just have to switch it off  you can't do anything about it since Sigma is still cheaper than the Sony equivlanet :D

Some are, Some are Sony-designed, and some are simply old Konica Minolta lenses in a new package

The macros fall into the "old Konica Minolta" category...as do pretty much every non-Carl Zeiss badged prime...

I am just concerned that many of their aging optics really -cant- handle a 24mp APS-C sensor when most were struggling at 12! (Theres exceptions obviously..)

I think its pretty obvious it can't handle 24mp... I mean these companies really need to redesign some of their lenses to cope with the increasing resolution of the cameras
