The last leg of our east coast tour was the Nations Capitol, Washington, DC. Of course we picked the same time to be there as the record heat. It was 118 with the heat index. In addition to the heat, I was a bit overwhelmed by the big city and little desire to walk around the city with my equipment. However, we did go on a sunset memorial tour and I was able to do nearly all the monuments at one shot.

These are all 7 shot +/- 1 EV. All are 16mm with the exception of the veiw from the Lincoln Memorial which is 200mm.

1. The Capitol

2. WWII Memorial

3. Korean War Memorial

4. Mr. Lincoln

5. View from the Lincoln Memorial of the WWII Memorial, Washington Monument & Capitol. Unfortunately, the reflecting pool was under construction and drained which would have added another dimension to this shot.

6. Mr. Jefferson

7. Iwo Jima Memorial

I like them all except the first one Jon. It looks like the little boy was pasted in, probably from one of the single exposures. I think the shot would look better with him removed completely.

Nothing gets by you Gene, which is why I love your comments :) He was in the shot, but moving about and was a bit ghosty; so you're correct that he was enhanced from one of the originals. Incidentally, he was next to his parents who added nothing and were left on the editing room floor. :) This is no different than the last one in the series, so hopefully correctable.

I think the boy makes the shot, so it's necessary to keep him in. Otherwise, it's just a capitol snapshot. I'll give it another go. Thanks!

I thing that you have been good with processing the sky with the outdoor-shots, but I would like you to make more use of the HDR effects in the outdoorshots - like you have done with the indoor-shots.

Love the photos. What sunset tour did you go on? I am going to DC in a few weeks and haven't picked a nighttime tour to join yet...

Thanks schen. I don't recall the name of the tour, but our hotel recommended it. It picked us up at the hotel at a little past 7 and dropped us back off there at 10:30. I believe it was the only evening tour to do all the major memorials except Washington (which could be seen from just about all of them) plus the Capitol and White House. The only other tour which looked remotely interesting was a Segway tour which didn't see as much but was pretty cool none the less.

Some great shots there.:)

I am visiting Washington DC next week and am hoping to capture some of the memorials and buildings at night.

There are conflicting reports on the internet with regards to the use of tripods in the city. Did you experience any problems or any over zealous Police or Security Guards harrassing you during your visit?

Thanks

Thanks guys.

Tony, I was told I had to remove the tripod from the sidewalk in front of the white house. Otherwise, there were no issues anywhere.

Jason, the only changes to the first shot were that the child was a little far relative to the shot, so I blew him up about 30%. Nothing done in the area you are asking about.
