Hi Everyone,

I'm reaching out to all from Kansas City, MO to ask what location (and safe area) that I can visit to photograph a beautiful skyline of the city. Typically I like to shoot during the blue hour.
I travel extensively for business and lately I have been bringing along my gear then search for a great location to shoot the city. I have a very nice collection and since I have been doing this I no longer dread leaving for my next business trip :-)
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Depends on what you are really looking for I guess. I would suggest that you go to liberty memorial and shoot union station, but also advise that you travel with some one.
Where are you staying when you arrive and when are you coming? you can message me if you don't want that public. If things can be arranged perhaps i could meet with you and show you a few quick spots down town.
The famous plaza area now has a curfew and is safe, but even at that use caution and if you are going downtown to the power and light district you can get some cool images from a parking gargae there and that area is also under patrol and is pretty safe.
All of these areas have there own problems just as any big city would have, with a little self awaerness you can travel to all of those spots with no problem.

I live North of Kansas City, and come down I-35. Early in the morning, just around sunrise, there's a pretty spectacular view from North-Northeast from across the Missouri river. as you drive south on I-35, there's a road called Levee Road, just before you get to the river. You might need to scout the area the day before if you get time.

Thanks to all who responded. Also, Riggerjoe that was a great suggestion to contact the local camera clubs. Anyway, I have found a few places to shoot Kaw Point being one of them. Looks like a great location.
I love this forum! So much information and great folks who want to share and learn :-)

Kaw point is super cool, but is in the heart of an area that I will not travel without a friend! Very industrial, remotish in the sense that no one can see you down there and there is a large transit/homeless area on the other side of the fence.. i know I have snapped pics there of them as well as checked out the interior of the grain elevator next to Kaw point. there was a homless family living on the top floor at that time!
I believe that digital deminsions club is an active club in KC, they post up a lot of trips and the Kansas pro photo grop has a facebook page as well and you can post up a search there.
I really wish i had the time to travel about town with you to show you some places, I hope that at least one of the KC, lawrence, topeka people here can come and taxi you about town that evening!

Check out the Summit Street bridge looking east towards downtown. Pretty nice overview of the Bartle Hall art, the interstates, and the new Performing Arts Center. You should be able to google the spot, it's where a lot of the local news crews do shots from.

Thanks! Is that in a relatively safe area?

Like Joe said in an earlier post all areas have there own problems just as any big city would have. If you have someone to go with you that is best, but I have been there several times by myself and had no problems.

WEST BOTTOMS is a great place to shoot but not skylines ;). You can drop into The Golden Ox

For one of the best steaks in the world. I'm from Chicago and the steaks at the Golden Ox are truly amazing.
