ok so my brother noticed that i have started to take photography kinda serious and he decided to give me his Canon Xti but he some how broke off one of the auto focusing contacts so the autofocus no longer works. well i contacted Canon abd they told me i can send it in for repair or take part in the CLP.

I like the idea of upgrading to a t2i for 450 giving my xti a 200 +or- value. but if i repair it i can sale for 300 +or- and buy a camera for at least 700.

what do you guys think i should do??

Bodies: Sony A6000, T3i and Xti(needs repairs, but use in manual)
Lenes: Sony 16-50(kit), Canon 50 F1.8, Sigma 24-70 F2.8-4, Canon 70-210 F4, Canon 55-250 IS, Canon 75-300, and Canon 18-55(auto focus is broken so I use it on the Xti)

Well, remember that you can trade in ANY Canon camera in the CLP so long as it is out of warranty. So you really don't want to trade in anything that's actually worth something. For my trade-in, I went to a local thrift store and bought a used Canon film P&S for $5, and traded that in on the CLP T2i. Then I sold my XT for $295.

If your Xti will be worth more than the repair cost, then get it repaired and sell it. Then do the CLP transaction seperately using some old film P&S (Craigslist can help there). If the repair cost is too much, you might still get good money for the Xti as a non-working "for parts" camera on Ebay.

It's just hard for me to see a circumstance under which it would make sense to trade in the Xti.

You can pick up a CLP camera for $20, trade that in and sell the one you've got.
