Uh, Sony is throwing down a heck of a gauntlet here...Definitely makes me curious to see what a 7DII is going to be.....

Highlights:

24mp APS-C
12fps with AF
19 point AF array, 11 cross type
XGA OLED EVF
Live white balance adjustment in the viewfinder
Pretty comprehensive looking movie mode with 24/25/50/60fps shooting, with phase detect AF (And a real viewfinder)
Spiffy trick screen

Provided its reasonably priced, Its going to sell...

Im pretty damn impressed personally. Definitely sets the bar even higher for the 7DMKII.

I gotta admit..Theres a piece of me that would replace his 7D with it...The EVF and the tilty-whirly screen would be VERY nice things to have for some of my photography...

Ah.. forward progress is such a wonderful thing.

I don't need the 24mp (though I don't need 18 either). I'm impressed with them pushing 24mp @ 12fps. Canon can't do that much (unless Sony's shooting at 12-bit instead).

I like the translucent mirror. Though I have to image the compromise is that it will adversely affect low-light situations. More glass for light to pass through. Not to mention you now need to worry not only about sensor dust, but also mirror dust? :D

But on the bright side... it works great if one wants to shoot HD movies using AF. Sure... the TV/film industry don't care for AF in video but the "commoners/consumers" will gobble that right up.

Bah.. may be 12 FPS but the buffer on this thing (according to dpreview's hands on preview) shows ~13 images. Kinda underwhelming, no?

I don't like EVFs or translucent mirrors, but other than that, I WANT IT.

Wait for real world reports and image results, buying items off of "cool" specs is a foolish thing to do especially a sony product.

Good catch and yes. And its burst depth for JPG is under 20 when previous dSLRs could do unlimited (though possibly at 3 fps). So what's the point of having so many fps if you can only do it for 1 to maybe 1.5 seconds?! Another sony "spec" that is poorly implemented in the large scheme of things! I think the 1D4 does 110 highest quality JPG in a burst at 10 fps. There's a reason why one costs $5000 and another costs $1300. ;)

7D does unlimited JPG bursts as well at 8fps. I believe it's mentioned in dpreview's in-depth review. They supposedly gave up after 3 minutes.

I mean 24.3mp is a lot of data to push through. But if they're able to do that... they should've provided a larger buffer, IMO. I suppose at the price point, they decided otherwise.

Wait for real world reports and image results, buying items off "cool" specs is a foolish thing to do, and that's not just the case with Sony products, but with any Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus, Panasonic or whatever make as well ;).

Piece of me, Not all of me, I love my 7D, Theres a few things I wish it had, I would wait until Canon launched the 7DII to really make any kind of replacement decision however

The 7D will manage to do 16-19 or something RAWs at 8fps, Sure you're not getting 12, but i can maintain my burst longer (I know from experience i get to about 25 before the camera slows down) I think theres a higher chance i get the shot than the Sony shooter with the a77

You might get more shots (because you won't run out of buffer space after about 1,01 second or so), but there's a higher chance the A77 shooter will get better/more focused images because of the translucent thing - it's better at tracking a moving subject, to put it that way :).

True, that is a good point

But he's only going for 1 second ;) I'm going for 3...

Be fun to try though! 7D VS a77 VS 1DIV

But the Sony shooter is capturing more within the second he's shooting...

Honestly, these FPS conversations are vacuous. If you're that bothered about missing out, then shoot video and extract a still. That's where we're heading so might as well get used to it....
