Getting in too close will give you some perspective distortion. It happens with my 35L if I do a head-only shot. Both are fantastic lenses though depending on your intended use. The Sigma 30 is a less expensive alternative but is softer in the corners. I tested out both the Sigma 30 and the 35L and the corner softness combined with all the instances of focusing issues pushed me toward the 35L. 5D4 w/BG-E20, 24-105 f/4L, 70-200 f/2.8L IS II, 35 f/1.4L, 85 f/1.8, 100 f/2.8L IS Macro, Sigma 50 f/1.4

Pick your poison ![]() I picked 24L over 35L as 24L is a bit wider on crop Canon 5D3 + Zoom (EF 17-40L, 24-105L & 28-300L, 100-400L II) & Prime (24L II, 85L II, 100L, 135L & 200 f/2.8L II; Zeiss 1,4/35)

If you plan on going FF soon, 24L II! 5DmkIII | Rokinon 35mm f/1.4 | Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L mk II | Canon 24mm f/1.4L mk II | Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5L mk II | Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L | Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS mk II | + Misc

You will see this with a wide-angle lens when you are close to your subject. If you use your 15-85 to take a head shot of someone at 35mm and them move back and take the shot again at 85mm with the same framing you will see the difference. The subject's nose (or other features) in the center of the frame may look slightly bigger in the 35mm shot. This is why the 50mm or 85mm lenses are used frequently for portraits, they flatten the shot more than wider angle lens which results in a more pleasing photo. 5D4 w/BG-E20, 24-105 f/4L, 70-200 f/2.8L IS II, 35 f/1.4L, 85 f/1.8, 100 f/2.8L IS Macro, Sigma 50 f/1.4

This is all true of course, but it is worth noting that perspective distortion will effectively be lessened for the same lens (focal length) with the same framing on APS-C vs. FF due to the fact that the camera-to-subject distance will necessarily be farther than it would on FF.
