Both are excellent lenses... so it depends more on what FL you prefer. If you are not sure, you can always test 24mm and 35mm on your 15-85.

go with the sigma30 f/1.4. 95% of the lens for a fraction of the price.

Depends on what you shoot. If wider then 24L. If thinking about 35L I may go for sigma 30mm f1.4 isntead.

If you are going to be using it for portraits I would not recommend the 24L unless you are doing full body shots. Getting in too close will give you some perspective distortion. It happens with my 35L if I do a head-only shot. Both are fantastic lenses though depending on your intended use. The Sigma 30 is a less expensive alternative but is softer in the corners. I tested out both the Sigma 30 and the 35L and the corner softness combined with all the instances of focusing issues pushed me toward the 35L.

I shot with both and own the 35L

The 35L is a damn fine lens, but expensive
The 24L II is a damn fine lens too, but more expensive.

Pick your poison :)

Go for the Sigma version and spend the extra money on other stuff, such as more flashes, memory cards, etc.

I picked 24L over 35L as 24L is a bit wider on crop ;)

For a crop, this is excellent advice! If you plan on going FF soon, 24L II!

 I own 24L and use it very often on crop, this lens is really comfortable. I feel easier to use 24mm than 35mm; But I imagine such length really depends on photographs , 24L is also interesting for a rather close MFD which makes it usable for short distance shooting like restaurants

24L has a very fast and accurate AF, which makes it also interesting for action/sport shooting ..

I don't know sigma 35mm, but 24F1.8 is not bad at all ! just AF is a disaster and of course on fullframe rather far from 24L results. I still own a sigma 24F1.8 and I made a comparison with 24L in real life !!!

... it's up to you to find if Sharpness, Flare and AF are worth 1000$ more ... on fullframe no doubt, even if I love macro like sigma's capability, but on crop, I wouldn't pay the extra.

The distortion is only for FF ?

No, it can happen on either crop or FF. You will see this with a wide-angle lens when you are close to your subject. If you use your 15-85 to take a head shot of someone at 35mm and them move back and take the shot again at 85mm with the same framing you will see the difference. The subject's nose (or other features) in the center of the frame may look slightly bigger in the 35mm shot. This is why the 50mm or 85mm lenses are used frequently for portraits, they flatten the shot more than wider angle lens which results in a more pleasing photo.

This is all true of course, but it is worth noting that perspective distortion will effectively be lessened for the same lens (focal length) with the same framing on APS-C vs. FF due to the fact that the camera-to-subject distance will necessarily be farther than it would on FF.
