How not to goof off set. Warning, scary pic.

So my crew and I have been extremely bored on a long term shoot. As boys tend to do when we get bored, we goof off a lot.

Moments after this photo was taken the 5D + 35L rig in the pic went tumbling to the concrete. The 5D seems to be OK but the 35L is now a tilt shift lens. I plan to send to Canon CPS to see what they say. The glass seems to be fine. It's just the mount and body that seems to be broken.

Oh well, lesson learned.

It's mine. But production said they can cover the repair if it's a few hundred bucks or so. Anyone had a repair like this done?

I've not had a lens repaired but if there is internal damage I would think it would be quite expensive. Is it insured?

I just had one that was worse: I dropped a 100mm f/2.8 L macro a couple of feet onto a rock in a lake. In addition to the impact, which did less damage than to yours, it got wet through. Mine was totaled--repair would have exceeded the price of the lens. However, part of that was water damage, which you don't have, so maybe you will be luckier. One thing they explained to m is that having to take lenses out of their mounts and reassemble them drive up costs, because each element then has to be aligned. If yours is just the back one, maybe you will be OK. Good luck.

ouchhh....that must have been a sucky split second when you saw it hit the ground!

OUCH. I would shed a tear if my 35L hit the ground
