Yes, I heard an insider report last year that he is indeed mortal. Oh well.

This has the appearance of a well orchestrated transition.

Cook has created the merchandizing engine that has made Apple what it is as a revenue producer using the designs that Jobs inspired and the engineering and design staff brought to life.

Jobs, and Apple have remade three industries. I suspect that as Jobs fades gradually into the background we will find the team he built will do a great job.

The unfortunate part of the announcement, unspoken, is that his health is apparently not improving.

Those are some massive shoes to fill. I know Cook has been groomed but he's got a major challenge in front of him. I am praying for a miracle for Steve Jobs. He has driven innovation in the tech industry like nobody else.

Disney owns Pixar. They bought it from Jobs for 6 billion. Jobs bought it from ILM for 10 million.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

that's laughable.
Who would you have them be less arrogant than? Cisco, GE, CitiBank, Goldman Sach, Microsoft, Sony, Toyota, GM, Blue Cross, EDS, IBM?

Arrogance is an attribute that is assigned to essentially every company that has led their market.

Apple, as a company, and Jobs as a CEO are unique. Most companies are lucky to become market leaders in a single category. Jobs has led Apple to dominate, change the market, in three categories. That is probably something that will take decades, if ever to replicate.

As Jeb, the Beverly Hill Billy, was fond of saying, "ain't bragging if its fact."

If anybody was thinking of buying AAPL this looks like a horrendous time to do it. It went from just over $315 to just over $405 from June-July and it's only moved a bit off its historic high on this news. Anything it lost has been made back. Man, I always used to think of Apple as a trendy stock...maybe before '01 it might have seemed that way...bw!
