I'm shooting a very small wedding tomorrow, last minute inquiry. We discussed locations that would suit them and I gave them suggestions and quoted them per hour pricing because it's just two of them so I thought we could have it done in about two hours. I also quoted them an estimate timeline based on the location.

I agreed with them that they could pay me in cash, sans deposit because they just decided to get a photographer on their way out here. I would normally have a contract and have the person send 1/2 via a check for deposit; however, in this case the check would not have got her on time so I just took their word for it that we'll settle up once the wedding is done. No harm, no foul...I am okay with this.

Now they get into town Tuesday, check the weather and decide to move it about 45 minutes South where it is sunnier. They let me know this today, wedding is tomorrow afternoon. So I'm looking at an additional 1.5hrs of driving that was not expected when I gave them an estimate of the hours.

Suggestions on if I should just suck it up or if I should let them know today that "Because you chose to move the wedding 45mins away from the initial location the initial estimate is wrong. The new estimate is 3.5hrs."

What would you do?

It's entirely up to you. If it was me, I at least ask for some compensation. Maybe ask them for gas money instead. Let them know that this change add another hour and a half to your time + driving distance. I would ask for additional $100. That's not too much to ask. In fact $100 is really the low end of compensation.

Charge more. You agreed on an hourly rate, there's extra time, so you charge extra. Alternately go by the standard terms in your contract which should cover that, since they have to agree to them before you shoot their wedding anyway. Get them to sign it when you turn up if you can.

Be nice, but a change in requirements leads to a change in price.
