Less pixels and lower available ISO are the two biggest drawbacks. But unless you are going to be making very large prints in low light conditions, it will do the job. I have a 10D and it continues to take good images. Go ahead and enjoy! Equipment list - According to the wife - "how many more lenses do you need? Yet another camera?"

Whether it's a good backup depends on the body itself and how much usage it's had. Not sure why, but call me JJ.
