Fire Season in SoCal

Small fire earlier this week, 400 acres. There was a strong air attack due to the terrain and environmental conditions - at least 5 helicopters and 4 airplanes.

Would have liked a tad more rotor blur, but I was unable to stay sharp below 1/160 handholding a 200-400 f/4 with a 15kt crosswind at 400mm. While I love that lens, wind is it's kryptonite.

Awesome! I didn't know anybody other than Erickson operates Skycranes.

I didn't either, until HTS and Hiller(?) supported a couple fires in socal. Amazing machines.

Ive got other pictures of a huey, S-2, and Neptune supporting this fire, but when there's sky cranes, who cares?

Thanks guys. A little less than thrilled how soft the pics look here, after already taking the sharpness knockdown shooting through water spray, I guess that's the cost of shooting pictures like this.
