HELPP!! I can't get this to go away. T_T

I had a off camera flash 430 EX II sitting next to me fired up at the ceiling and I fired at 500 shutter speed @ 1.4.....this has been the second time I've seen this, I first encountered this 1 week ago but it went away and now it's back! I was using a Yongnuo RF-602 Trigger and Receiver...I noticed that when I used the on camera flash everything was fine. :S

It looks as if your shutter speed (1/500 sec) is too fast. (Faster than the camera's max flash sync speed which is usually 1/200th-1/250th sec). It appears as if the shutter is closing before the flash can expose the entire photograph.

That would be my guess.

Photographers do it in 1/1,000th of a second...but the memory lasts forever! ;)

Yeah, you're exceeding your max sync speed. Or your shutter is dying, one of the two.

when I need to use higher shutter speeds, I set it (430 EX II) up to use high speed sync. Although you can use higher shutter speeds, it lessens the power considerably (longer distances probably wouldn't work well if you use high speed sync) so keep that in mind if you use it.

Not sure if that would work correctly w/ the flash off camera though. I can setup the 430 EX II to high speed sync, but since I don't have another flash or cable like you have, the camera doesn't let me set a higher shutter speed. Attaching the flash to the camera lets me use higher shutter speeds in high speed sync.
