Has anyone in the world actually been successful in setting up a WFT-E4 II in Windows 7?
If so PLEASE share how you did it.
I have been running up against brick walls for two weeks now trying to set up a FTP sever on my desktop, laptop, and Xoom tablet that the WFT will talk to.

I'm not a network geek so I may be missing something, but this shouldn't be this difficult!

I found connecting with the EOS Utility was simple but for FTP it doesn't seem to matter what I do I get either error 41 or 45.

I suspect the issue is with permissions to the C:/inetpub/ftproot folder but I'm not bright enough to figure out what, or how to fix it.

Any help would not only be deeply appreciated by me, but also my wife, my children, their children and at least 3 Canon techs who are as dumbfounded as me! ;)

Cheers
Bill

My guess is you are right with permissions.

I have in the past tried to set up an FTP server on a Windows machine and failed... but because I never really needed it, I didn't bother in the end.

I suggest you start by trying to set up an FTP server first and test it with a laptop (or another desktop computer) to ensure it works.
I'd say the key stumbling blocks would be:
1) Firewall
2) Permissions, for IIS there is at least the IUSR and the WPG account.

Also, enable extensive logfiles on the server, maybe that will give a hint where the issue occurs.
Use a client that will give you (relatively) detailed ftp information when connecting (e.g. Filezilla) to troubleshoot at what side the issue occurs.

I hope this give you some ideas where to look.

Edit:
I just gave IIS with FTP another fiddle... as far as I can see the problem lies with user credentials.

You can obviously also try something like Filezilla Server.

Thanks Detlev, I appreciate you taking the time to reply .

I got it!...but I don't completely understand how I got it... but I got it!!
The problem was permissions. The clue came when I was trying to log on to the ftp server through Filezilla and I kept getting 'access denied'. I did a LOT of Googoling and came up with this:

I opened a command prompt, did an icalcs with a user parameter then went to the properties of the ftproot folder and gave that user full control...and viola! It worked!

There may be a more elegant solution by doing the icalcs for 'everyone'. Maybe I'll work on that another time.

Oh, and for those running McAfee virus software...the trick with that is you have to go in and tick a box to allow ftp through the firewall. And another trick...if you turn it off the Windows firewall takes it's place, so that also has to be configured to let the ftp through.

It's been a long road..I'm so glad I found an end to it.

One other related question:
Once the file lands in the folder, is there a way of previewing it full screen without clicking on it?

Cheers
Bill

Sounds good that you got it to work :) that's an OS for you - sometimes the little things just don't work...

About the file preview:
Explorer no - if you have a software for it, maybe.

If you use the EOS Utility connection instead, then it's easy to preview.
Sending to an FTP server would require an application, which looks in the folder and displays whatever is new, as far as I know.
