Very nice. The Red Bull signage provides a pretty dreamy backdrop.

Nice work DC, I trucked my rear and the 400mm f2.8 all over that place and had a few keepers, not anything panning came out. Nice first outing for me.

Thanks for the kind words.

This was a case where the Sigma 150-500mm lens was very useful.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is constructed so that every spectator location has at least one fence between the viewer and the track. One of the exceptions is the main stretch of the oval, where an area along the outside wall can be viewed just above the pit lane fence. Fortunately, the motorcycles ran near that wall, and it was possible to climb to the top of the inside main stretch grandstand and get more-or-less clear shots of the riders over the fence. The long lens was needed to get decently framed images at 439mm or 500mm from the Sigma lens.

Nice shots! :) I was there as well...freakin fences everywhere are a nightmare for taking pictures. I actually sat in the SW Vista towards the top (high enough to shoot over the giant fence) and shot with a 7D, 400 5.6L paired with a 1.4TC (taped pins). Even with all that reach, and the autofocus working really well, I still can't crop them as much as I would like. I would have needed a 400 2.8L with a 2xTC....

Next year I'll spend more time going to a few of the decent places to take pictures around there. My bro-in-law is really into bikes, so I was sorta just along for the ride.

Great work on the panning, they are very sharp!

The colors on the bikes seem kind of dull though, I think you could bump the saturation a bit. The blue in the background looks good but the red on the ducatis seems pretty flat...

Nice shots...great panning, something which is hard to do there b/c of the fences (or is it just my lack of skill). What section was this taken from?

that's some ridiculously good panning, especially with that distance! what body were you using it on?

Top of the tower terrace seats north of the start-finish line, just in front of the press box.

Would you mind providing some constructive criticism on my photos; this was my first real go at it?

Great photos as always. I had a difficult time trying to getting good panning shots (keepers) on the main straight. The GP Bikes were hauling!!
