These were all taken in Virginia Beach, at the oceanfront. I wasnt really worried about composing shots, just wanted to take some pictures. Hope this is the right section for this even though some arent nature/landscapes

1. my view from the hotel room

IMAGE: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6202/6089929463_77669b80e8_z.jpg
2. it was just a little windy
IMAGE: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6073/6089941209_f6e24ccbfd_z.jpg
3. waves were HUGE for virginia beach standards haha. we average 1-2ft on a normal day
IMAGE: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6078/6089935627_dd8ea779b0_z.jpg
4. another to show the size of the waves. they ended up destroying part of the pier
IMAGE: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6066/6090482072_606df7cd57_z.jpg
5. this ferris wheel was rotating at about 10rpm from the wind
IMAGE: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6184/6090480590_96c5412859_z.jpg
6. other than the pier, this was the only major destruction I saw
IMAGE: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6204/6089939843_1ddc3b3c1b_z.jpg
7. this guy avoided all warnings and decided to get in the water anyway.
IMAGE: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6194/6090477210_f71ea3bf5d_z.jpg
8. and ended up getting arrested for trespassing
IMAGE: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6061/6090475900_8d581e2bc4_z.jpg

Sorry for all of the pictures, but I wanted to share my experience. I was really shocked to see as many people as I did at the beach, and a dozen or so in the water.

Any chance that's the same pier that Fox News showed getting slowly disintegrated the past couple of days?

Amazing to think, the winds in your storm there are almost 100 mph slower than the peak gusts of the 1962 Columbus Day storm that hit Oregon when I was a toddler.

Downtown Portand low down by one bridge saw 116 mph winds and part of the coast just under 180 mph reported. Basically the equal of a Category 5 hurricane, except it's called a "storm" out here.

I'm not sure if its the same pier or not. I didnt really watch too much of the news during/prior to the storm. We were getting gusts of just over 60mph when we were out taking pictures. I can only imagine 180mph winds.

At least the pier is fairly safe item to watch getting battered. It's not like sheets of metal roofing or plywood are likely to come flying in from the ocean.

Considering that a lot of people drive to the coast out here to watch storms, I suppose that the coastal population and commerce may actually have surged in your area where it was not too dangerous for a while as watcher drove from inland.

I think it could have been cool to get a long exposure of the Ferris wheel moving.

Wow. And that was only cat. 1. When Charlie was headed for St. Petersburg, they were saying water would almost cover our lightpoles.

Great pictures of the waves crashing against the pier.

Cops absolutely have no sense of humor for people with no common sense. Nice shots. KUDOS.

Have plenty of Canons, enough ammo, enough to blow 'em to "L". Now, I just have to learn to aim.

None whatsoever. And to think, I was going to take my bodyboard and fins along with me. Just incase the surf wasnt too big.

Hurricane leave any damage in your area? I live over by city hall in chesapeake, and other than some leaves all over the place, it wasnt too bad
