Thanks. Nice to know its not just me :)

Personally, I want the system to remember anything I have set as my default or last used. I would not think this is so difficult as it "appears" the transmitter is sending what it believes should be the defaults each time it is powered on.

Yes, agreed. I think they cheaped out and didn't put in a non-volatile memory to store the last settings.

I wouldn't think it even needs memory to store last settings...just not to rewrite with defaults on power up should solve it and put the onus on the cam settings to set as the user desires. So rather than having to add hardware, should be removing a few lines of code in the device as it is now.

BTW, I've read that this can be used as a shutter release though it may not yet be implemented. Do I assume correctly that you mount a receiver on the camera and trigger that by pressing both buttons on the transmitter? If so, where does one get the USB to N3 cable I would need to even test this?

Hi Bob, Clive and I received the USB to N3 cable with some Beta versions of the Kings.

I'm not sure if they come with the cable now, or if the shutter release works now or not, but I would assume most likely not.

I think the same USB shutter cable is supplied with the Opas triggers. It does work with those, but then you can use a miniphone plug option for those too which I would think is lot more sturdy.

Thanks Elv.

They do not come with that cable now. I got mine last week and easyfoto said they were fresh stock from 5 days before.

Would be nice if this worked. One less thing to have to carry with me in a separate wireless shutter trigger.

I'll check their Opas pages.

Bob, We told Pixel that the shutter release did not work for us, and asked howit should be set up. No answer. Testing current models show no shutter function. One problem is that there is no half=-shutter (two-stage) button on the King TX. Your assumed configuration is not correct.

You would still need to carry a second King TX and RX for the shutter release. As the manual says, RX "doesn't support ... at same time". The timings for shutter release and for flash firing are different, so two independent circuits are needed. I carry a Soldier pair.

I have a 600w Mettle strobe (rebranded flashpoint 1220m).

Does anyone use a mettle or flashpoint strobe, and if so, what's the max shutter speed have you been able to get reliably?

I'm debating between the pixel kings or the forever back ordered pocket wizard plus IIIs.

I just bought a 60D and plan on keeping my T2i around as a backup. I searched the thread but never really saw a clear answer, can the Kings work with both cameras since the 60D has its own firmware?

Ok not really sure but using a canon 50d and a 580ex not ex mk 2 how much control would I have over the flash from the camera. I guess manual and ettl but what about settings I can change if the flash is say in a soft box off camera ???.

The wife says I never listen or something like that.

The answer is the same as if the flash was on your camera: nothing besides FEC and whether or not the flash fires. This is a limitation in the communication between the flash and the body and has nothing to do with whether it is a Pixel King or Pocket Wizard in between.

@PWard

Suppose this doesn't answer your question exactly, but I have just been testing my Kings with my Jinbei Discovery 1200w, And I can get 1/200 to 1/8000th on a 5d2, no problem.

once you go over X-Sync you instantly lose about 1.5 stops, from then on You lose the same amount of flash power for each stop, so 1/500th@f4 is the same as 1/1000th@f2.8. this is gonna be a great way to open up the f-stop on outdoor portraits if you have enough power in your strobe..:)

Very impressed.

There have been questions about the Pixel TF-321 adapter. The early version makes a great TTL-decoupler. It is relevant to the Kings.

See https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1175223

Using Canon menus, the Kings can do either all-ETTL or all-Manual. They will reset Speedlite on-flash settings mounted directly on an RX. The old TF-321 allows mixed ETTL and on-flash Manual, as well as stable on-flash Mode, Power and Zoom.

So, after a long time I succeeded in updating the software (using a different computer). My 1v can now trigger the flash too!

Unfortunately, triggering it via the TX coax port doesn't work. It seems I can't trigger it with a non-TTL camera either. This is particularily annoying as I wanted to use it with my hasselblad as well as with the 5dm2 and 1v.
