Good afternoon!

any suggestions as to a good reliable monopod. i'll be using it mostly for my 20d and Bigma lens. i have a good tripod, but want a monopod for the times I need to be more mobile.

I also want to have the bogen quick release mounts.

thanks!

Bushman

I have a Manfrotto (Bogen) 680, and I like it. I like the 4 sections, which makes it smaller when collapsed. If you want something lighter, go for the magfiber version.

Either one will accept the Manfrotto Ball heads. I like the 486 best for its combination of weight capacity and light weight (on the light monopod). I would recommend at least the 486 with the Bigma. You should be able to get it with any of the QC systems.

Have Fun,

Rick

Thanks for your advice! I checked them out online and ordered from Adorama.

Looks like a good set up!

Thanks!

Count another vote for the combination of a Bogen/Manfrotto 680B with a Bogen/Manfrotto 486RC2 ballhead screwed to the top. Superb package for not too many dollars.

I have Manfrotto 679 and it works just fine. It might be a bit heavier and it doesn't "collapse" really small since it has only 3 sections but it's no big deal for me. It's usually attached to lens so I carry it together with lens, and a bit longer one doesn't hurt at all for such purpose. Since I usually I need it with 300/2.8 I have no wish for head on monopod, so I can't give any suggestion about head which would fit your needs.

Here's another vote for the 680B- sturdy and reliable. Head though, I have a 322RC2 and love it. I think I need another one for my Velbon Mountain Chaser tripod. I use it mainly with a 20D with grip and my 70-200 2.8L IS. Feels just right.

The Feisol is a 4 section, carbon fiber monopod. It is only $70. The best value around in a carbon fiber. It will also support 7 kg and only weighs .36 kg. www.feisol.com (external link)

I am pretty happy with my Giotto's P-Pod monopod with the ball and tilt head. It is pretty sturdy, can support 25 pounds and collapses to a reasonably compact length. It accommodates my 20D and 70-300 mm zoom lens just fine.

Not sure which model but I recently got a chance to use a Manfrotto monopod and loved it.

I have the Velbon NeoPod 7 and it works very well, especially for a large lens. Since the largest I have is the 100-400, I probably would have been better off with the Neopod 6, which is even a better deal. Very high quality for a very reasonable price.
