Hi, I searched the forum and only found a single thread on the Manfrotto 190XDB + 391RC2 head, I am based in South Africa and can source one of these for around R1,400 ....
I will be pairing my 550d with a 55-250mm lense, do you think the tripod combination will work .... Fairly inexperienced photographer on a tight budget (just bought 550d and extra lense so money limited) ..... thanks

How tall are you? The 190XDB is a "mini" tripod which stands only about four feet high without extending the center column. Extending the center column to gain height is something that one should not do on a regular basis, as it makes the tripod much less stable than with the center column down.

Most of us prefer a ball head over a 3-way head for general-purpose still photography use. I would suggest that you look seriously at the 498RC2 ball head instead of the 3-way head.

I think that you should find a photo store where you can actually try several different tripod and head designs so that you can see for yourself how much sturdier the often-recommended Manfrotto 055XProB would be as compared to the 190XDB, for example.

Hi, thanks for the response ... I actually have come across an old thread and another "disadvantage" is the Turn knobs for the legs .... I am 6 foot tall so guess the 055XProB is the winner ...

You shan't be sorry with that choice.
