Not really a 5D vs 7D question but...

So here is the story. Currently I have a 550D with a 50 1.4 , 85 1.8 as well as a 24-70 L. I think I want another body, regardless of the reasoning (I am not saying it will make me a better photographer or get me better pictures) lets just say I want a new one soon

With the 5D m III not that far off and 7D not being updated for a bit, I am considering waiting on the 5DMIII since it will likely be a full frame. I am not chasing the speed here with 8fps, and having a crop body already a between the two that I would be choosing as an addition to my stuff a full frame would be the logical choice right? (writing the post I think I convinced myself yet again, looks like I just want to hear someone else say it to me to reassure me

Get a 5DII. People who say they are camping out for a 5D III are just pipe dreaming. It's not out. We have no release info. We can only assume there will be a 5D III - maybe it'll be a 6D. Who knows. Point is, when it comes out it won't be cheap and if you did want to make the jump to FF it'd be pretty cost effective to do it today. You could pick up a 5DII and sell it when the 5DIII comes out (or weeks before) for not that much of a loss.

That is a great point. I just may do that and grab it as a kit with the 24-105. Eventually keep the lens and sell the body when mark III announcement and release date hits. Thanks!

It really just depends on why you want a new body---there's no absolute right or wrong answer here. If you're looking to do better wildlife or sports photography, go with the 7D. If you're more into portraits, landscapes or architecture, go full-frame. Going full-frame will also stretch the effective FLs of your kit (since your 50mm could then be a true 50 or a 75ish on your crop), but it might not be worth the money unless you need full frame for the kind of photography you do. Maybe a 1.3x crop (as opposed to your 1.6) would do. In order to answer this question, we'd really need to know more about what it is you're hoping to do. What are your priorities? More resolution? Faster autofocus?

With good lenses you have it is wrong to wait for something which is not exists and will costs like three 7D.
Don't know why you would need 5DMKII with 24-105F4, if you have 24-70, 50 and 85.
Get 135L instead of 24-105L.

I don't shoot any sports and my wildlife shots generally limited to taking photos of puppies in the part Most of the time I shoot portraits (family and friends) often in dim places such as concerts and clubs. Architecture and landscapes are my personal likings as well. That was the reasoning in my head with keeping my 550D for the 1.6 crop when I need it and getting a full sensor as a second body.

That makes sense. You might also consider a 5Dc or a 1DSc as a second, FF body---then pick up some additional glass. But it sounds like you could benefit from FF. (I have a 7D and a 1DSc and find they offer me a very wide variety of possibilities.)

Lets say that at this point it was a choice of bodies rather then their cost (within reason, I am not ready to invest in a M9

24-105 was more of a convenience to have as a walk around. Eventually I will pick up a 135 L as well as upgrade my 85 to 85L. That was the road plan.

5Dc is a great value right now, 5dII's are not. I also wouldn't wait on the 5dIII, even if it's announced soon it won't be widely available for months and pricing wise it will be at a premium. You could shoot with whatever FF body you choose now for a year and then evaluate the mkIII situation.

Having just purchased another body for myself (went from 50d to 5d2), ask yourself, 'why do I want another body?' and if the current bodies meet your requirements, then I say go for it! I wanted the 5d2 for the higher ISO capabilities...i accept that at some stage the 5d3 will come out with better specs, but I also accept that that's just the way it goes...for now the 5d2 meets my needs, so I'm happy...

To the OP: I don't want to turn this into a 24-70 vs 24-105 thread, but I'd wait on the 24-105 if you've already got the 2470. And here's my reasoning: They are very similar lenses, so why not stretch your lenses at this point and experiment with different ones. Someone suggested the 135L, that's a nice choice if you prefer primes. If you prefer zooms, you can also try a 70-200 2.8 for about the same dollar amount, or very close. I'd suggest something like that instead of the 24-105. And I do own both, so that's just my .02 on that subject.

As to the camera, I couldn't agree more, go for it and don't wait on the next big thing. It'll ALWAYS be coming and if you listen to the boards, it's extremely imminent!!! In fact, it could happen today! ... except it doesn't. So live in the present, not in some hoped for future. Or go read the 1DsIV thread. It's been coming for what 4 years now?! So go buy the 5D2, it's an awesome camera and a great addition to a crop body!

May be 1DSII at this case with 24-105. Great AF system and totally weather sealed package to walkaround. I have 5Dc and have to use some tricks to avoid damage by water.
